Gender equality and family-friendly policies
Equal opportunities are a fundamental prerequisite for motivation, creativity, scientific performance and innovation. Therefore, gender equality is a primary concern of the SCyCode consortium and supported by all participating institutions.
The Universities of Tübingen, Freiburg, Rostock and Essen, as well as the Max Planck Institute in Golm define the creation of equal opportunities as a universal guiding principle that must be implemented in all institutional tasks. Consequently, all institutions have developed gender equality concepts, which include a broad range of measures. Female scientists are promoted in all areas and professional levels, in which they are under-represented. Also, considerable efforts have been made to provide family-friendly conditions. In accord with this, the Universities of Tübingen, Rostock and Duisburg-Essen are certified as “Family Friendly Universities”, which supports the scientific work of early career scientists and family life by multiple measures.
The SCyCode consortium is committed to these values and gives specific attention to workshops that are dedicated to aspects of gender equality and compatibility of family and scientific careers.
